Tour the unique coastal dune lakes of South Walton

What does Northwest Florida have in common with exotic locales such as Madagascar, New Zealand and Australia? In addition to stunning beaches, it is home to unique natural phenomenon called coastal dune lakes.
Our coastal dune lakes share an intermittent connection with the Gulf of Mexico. The lake water is fed by streams, groundwater seepage, rain and storm surge. The Walton County area boasts 15 coastal dune lakes.
This special eco-system is home to abundant plant and wildlife that is best observed in close range. You can walk to the lakes, and explore them via canoe, kayak or paddleboard, but a guided tour is really the best way to enjoy them to the fullest.
Walco Eco Tours provides hands-on eco-tours guided by Master Naturalists and Guides, Murray Balkcom and Karl Renelt. An avid outdoorsman and master naturalist Balkcom has been paddling on the coastal dune lakes of South Walton and the Gulf of Mexico since 2002, and has been leading guided nature walks and guided kayak tours in Walton County since 2006.
